Elkhart Christian Academy takes loss despite strong efforts from Justine Yordy and Ryleigh Viront

Recap: Elkhart Christian Academy Eagles vs. South Bend Clay Colonials

The Elkhart Christian Academy Eagles lost against the South Bend Clay Colonials back in January of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. Elkhart Christian Academy took a 40-34 hit to the loss column at the hands of South Bend Clay. Elkhart Christian Academy has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Elkhart Christian Academy's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Ryleigh Viront, who scored eight points along with 13 rebounds and three blocks, and Justine Yordy who scored 11 points along with five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Yordy has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Allison Russell, who scored four points along with four steals.

South Bend Clay's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Maliya Freeman, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 17 rebounds. Freeman hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for four straight games. Tyrece Cunningham was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with five rebounds and two steals.

Elkhart Christian Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 8-10. As for South Bend Clay, their victory bumped their record up to 2-15.

Elkhart Christian Academy on the road again on Thursday and play against Calumet Christian at 7:15 p.m. on January 11th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Indiana (Calumet Christian is ranked 283rd, while Elkhart Christian Academy is ranked 299th). As for South Bend Clay, they will be playing in front of their home fans against South Bend Career Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
