Baseball Game Preview: Monmouth Regional Falcons vs. Neptune Scarlet Fliers

Monmouth Regional has gone 7-2 against Neptune recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Falcons will be playing at home against the Scarlet Fliers at 3:45 p.m.

Monmouth Regional is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Freehold Boro just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Wednesday. They lost 11-3 to the Colonials.

Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last game, Neptune made sure to put some runs up on the board against Lakewood on Wednesday. The Scarlet Fliers blew past the Piners 11-1. The contest marked the Scarlet Fliers' most dominant victory of the season.

Trevor Rummel was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out seven over six innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base and one run. That stolen base marked the first that he has snagged this season.

In other batting news, Nick Bailey was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Max Kifner, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

Monmouth Regional now has a losing record of 8-9. As for Neptune, their win bumped their record up to 3-11.

Everything went Monmouth Regional's way against Neptune in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, as Monmouth Regional made off with a 13-3 victory. Will the Falcons repeat their success, or do the Scarlet Fliers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
