Football Recap: Wantagh Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Luke Martini and Joe Nicholson

Wantagh blew Clarke out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Saturday Clarke got their revenge. The Warriors fell just short of the Rams by a score of 36-34. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Warriors came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' New York football rankings (they are ranked 67th, while the Rams are ranked 247th).

Wantagh's loss came despite strong showings from Joe Nicholson and Luke Martini. Nicholson gained 192 total yards and three touchdowns, while Martini gained 217 total yards and a touchdown. Martini's longest rush was for an incredible 80 yards.

Wantagh didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Luke Gonsowski and Matthew Giacobello.

Having lost for the first time this season, Wantagh fell to 3-1. As for Clarke, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 3-1.

Looking ahead, Wantagh will host South Side at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Clarke, they will head out on the road to take on Valley Stream South on Saturday.
