Volleyball Recap: Lee Vining Comes Up Short

After flying high against Baker on Friday, Lee Vining came back down to earth. The Tigers fell just short of the Lone Pine Golden Eagles by a score of 3-2 on Monday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Golden Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-0 two weeks ago.

Lee Vining came incredibly close to winning: the sets they lost were decided by three points or less. The final score came out to 25-23, 8-25, 23-25, 26-24, 15-12.

Leading Lone Pine to victory were Yesenia Alegre and Camila Martinez. Alegre had 11 kills, seven digs, and four aces, while Martinez had 11 digs and two aces. With that strong performance, Alegre is now averaging an impressive 2.1 aces per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Allison Villa, who had seven digs.

With the defeat, Lee Vining broke their three-match winning streak and moved their record to 4-10. As for Lone Pine, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 11-11-2.

Coming up, Lee Vining will square off against Immanuel Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Lone Pine, they will challenge Tonopah at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
