Softball Game Preview: Lake Mary Rams vs. Melbourne Bulldogs

Lake Mary is 0-4 against Melbourne since April of 2021 but things could change on Wednesday. The Rams will host the Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. Melbourne took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Lake Mary, who comes in off a win.

Having struggled with 12 losses in a row, Lake Mary turned things around against Oviedo on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 victory over the Lions. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Rams have posted since March 4th.

Clara Edwards spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up six Ks.

At the plate, Lake Mary saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Addi Novitchkov, who scored a run while going 1-for-4.

Meanwhile, Melbourne was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They took an 8-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of University.

Layna Ayala made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one home run the last three times she's played. Brookelynn Dolin was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.

Melbourne now has a losing record of 8-9. As for Lake Mary, their victory bumped their record up to 3-15.

Lake Mary couldn't quite get it done against Melbourne when the teams last played back in April of 2024 as they fell 4-0. Can the Rams avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
