Southern Durham is on a seven-game streak of home wins, while Vance County is on a nine-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Southern Durham Spartans will take on the Vance County Vipers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
You can't lose the matchup if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Southern Durham's strategy against South Granville on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Southern Durham blew South Granville out of the water with a 62-10 final score. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 37-9.
Briana Hughes continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 27 points and 11 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Jakayla Palmer was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with nine steals and six assists.
Meanwhile, everything came up roses for Vance County at home against Granville Central on Wednesday as the team secured a 64-26 victory. Given Vance County's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 183rd, while Granville Central is ranked 585th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Southern Durham is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 17-5 record this season. As for Vance County, their win bumped their record up to 17-1.
