Recap: Mountain Vista Golden Eagles vs. Dakota Ridge Eagles
There's no place like home for the Mountain Vista Golden Eagles, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Thursday. They breezed by Dakota Ridge at home to the tune of 83-53 on Friday. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 50-22.
Cal Baskind continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 19 points along with four steals. He hasn't dropped below two steals for 14 straight games. Jacob Hoefs was another key contributor, almost dropping a double-double on 11 points and nine assists.
When it comes to explaining why Dakota Ridge lost, one person who can't be blamed is Ethan Berninger. Despite the final result, he scored 22 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Berninger has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last 11 times he's played. Another player making a difference was Nathan Bantock, who scored seven points.
Mountain Vista's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-4. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.0 points per game. As for Dakota Ridge, their loss ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-6.
Mountain Vista will head out on the road to face off against Douglas County at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Mountain Vista's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last ten matchups. As for Dakota Ridge, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Pomona at 3:00 p.m. on February 10th. Pomona will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 241st, while Dakota Ridge is ranked 48th).
