Recap: Fremont Firebirds vs. Santa Clara Bruins
After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Woodside, The Fremont Firebirds were happy to have found some success on Friday. They came out on top against Santa Clara by a score of 31-24. For Fremont, this counts as revenge for the 28-3 loss Santa Clara walked away with the last time they faced one another back in September of 2019.
Fremont's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Henry Buenrostro, who rushed for 56 yards and two touchdowns. Jordan Mckinney and his 120 yards on the ground were also a key factor in Fremont's win.
Fremont's victory was their fifth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 6-2. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-8 El Camino and 2-6 Santa Clara (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 30.7% over those games). As for Santa Clara, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-6.
Fremont will head out on the road to face off against Carlmont at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Santa Clara, they will look to defend their home field on Saturday against El Camino at 2:00 p.m. El Camino comes in on a streak of failing to score more than seven points in their last three games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
