Softball Recap: Chesapeake Panthers vs. Dawson-Bryant Hornets
Chesapeake had lost four straight at home, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 6-16 to make it five. They lost 23-1 to the Dawson-Bryant Hornets. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Hornets this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 12-0 last Wednesday.
As for Dawson-Bryant, the win (which was their tenth in a row) raised their record to 13-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games.
For Dawson-Bryant's part, Abbie Deeds was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out 11 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Deeds has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than ten strikeouts in 13 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Izzy Kitts was a standout: she got on base in all five of her plate appearances with three runs, four RBI, and one double. She continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played.
