Basketball Recap: Yazoo City's Loss Ends Seven-Game Winning Streak on the Road

If Yazoo City was feeling good fresh off their 59-24 takedown of Gentry last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Yazoo City Indians fell 50-42 to the Canton Tigers on Tuesday. The Indians have struggled against the Tigers recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.

It was another big night for Shamira Morton, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and 19 rebounds for Canton. Morton is crushing it when it comes to boards: she's pulled down at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Journee Brown, who posted ten points.

Yazoo City's loss ended a seven-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 13-5. As for Canton, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season.

Yazoo City will look to defend their home court on Friday against Holmes County Central at 6:00 p.m. As for Canton, they will head out on the road to face off against Cleveland Central at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Cleveland Central has won five straight at home, while Canton won four straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
