Smoky Valley gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Southeast of Saline Trojans by a score of 66-57. This was payback for the Vikings, who suffered a 48-32 loss the last time these two teams met.

Kristian Ryan was a one-man wrecking crew as he dropped a double-double with 28 points and 16 rebounds. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in assists (five). Another player making a difference was Ty Heitschmidt, who shot 73% from the field on his way to 17 points and six boards.

Despite the loss, Southeast of Saline still got an impressive performance from Tiernan Ptacek, who posted 24 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Hendrix Lund was another key player, going 5-for-11 en route to 16 points.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Smoky Valley will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Hoisington at 7:30 p.m. on January 6, 2026. As for Southeast of Saline, they will venture away from home to face off against Hesston at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
