Basketball Recap: Tyrean Henderson's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Floydada over New Home

If Floydada was feeling good fresh off their 90-45 takedown of Tahoka last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Floydada Whirlwinds took a hard 72-56 fall against the New Home Leopards on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, the Whirlwinds can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 492nd, while the Leopards are ranked 220th).

Several Whirlwinds players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Tyrean Henderson, who went 6 of 14 en route to 18 points. The matchup was Henderson's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Sergio Valadez was another key player, putting up 14 points and three steals.

With the loss, Floydada broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 18-10. As for New Home, they pushed their record up to 18-5 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing New Deal the next time they take the court. Floydada will host New Deal at 7:45 p.m. on Friday, while New Home will head out to face them at 7:45 p.m. on February 4th.
