Gillespie extended their winning streak to four on Wednesday, bumping their season record up to 10-5 in the process. They blew past the Dupo Tigers 19-5. Considering the Miners have won nine contests by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Paxton Reid was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Laci Schuckenbrock was incredible, going 3-for-4 with six RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Sadie Sholtis was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with four runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Gillespie always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .638. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Dupo only posted an OBP of .321.
As for Dupo, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season. As for they, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-7.
On Dupo's side, Kylie Kloess made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Adrienne Latimer, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Gillespie wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 12-2 win against O'Fallon on the 17th. As for Dupo, they have also already played their next contest, a 6-5 defeat against Steeleville on the 17th.
