Baseball Recap: James Monroe's Win on Monday Extends Winning Streak to Three

It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but James Monroe ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They won by a run and slipped past the WestSide Renegades 6-5. The win was familiar territory for the Mavericks, who have now won three matches in a row.

Kadyn Hines made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in nine consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs.

Hines wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Brycen Parker, who went 1-for-4 with one run and one RBI. Carson Koen was another, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs.

James Monroe pushed their record up to 13-10 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for WestSide, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-10.

Coming up, James Monroe will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Wyoming East at 5:30 p.m. The Mavericks' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Warriors have averaged an impressive 9.2 runs per game this season. As for WestSide, they will face off against Van at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Bulldogs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.72 runs per game on average), something the Renegades will no doubt try to take advantage of.
