Basketball Recap: Byers Takes a Loss

Byers and Sanford squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Byers had to settle for second. They took a 56-50 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mustangs. The Bulldogs have been going strong on the season, but this is now their second loss in a row.

When it comes to explaining why Byers lost, don't look at Quincy Eacret. Despite the final result, he went 7-for-16 on his way to 18 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals. That's the most boards Eacret has posted since back in March of 2024. James Maes was another key player, putting up 12 points and three steals.

Even though they lost, Byers was working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. This was only their second loss (out of 23 games) when they've passed the ball that well.

Byers' defeat dropped their record down to 21-6. As for Sanford, they are on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 15 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-6 record this season.

Byers does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Sanford, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 47-45 victory against Sedgwick County on the 15th.
