Basketball Game Preview: Hobbs Eagles vs. Mayfield Trojans + Official Tickets

Having just played yesterday, the Hobbs Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Mayfield Trojans at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hobbs knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past eight matchups -- so hopefully Mayfield likes a good challenge.

Hobbs is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of New Mexico's top teams: Organ Mountain, who was ranked 17th at the time (Hobbs was ranked fifth). The Eagles escaped with a win on Thursday against the Knights by the margin of a single free throw, 63-62. The game was the first time the Eagles have beaten the Knights on their court since December 17, 2021.

Meanwhile, Mayfield is still undefeated this season after their contest against Centennial on Saturday, but Centennial came as close as anyone has to beating them. The Trojans skirted past the Hawks 57-55. While the Trojans didn't have the best season last year (they finished 12-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Mayfield's win bumped their record up to 6-0. As for Hobbs, their victory bumped their record up to 7-1.

Everything came up roses for Hobbs against Mayfield when the teams last played back in December of 2024, as the team secured a 79-48 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
