Basketball Recap: Monroe Central Extends Road Winning Streak to Five

Monroe Central won the last time they faced Barnesville and things went their way on Thursday too. The Monroe Central Seminoles snuck past the Barnesville Shamrocks with a 49-44 victory. Given the Seminoles' advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 172nd, while the Shamrocks are ranked 429th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Several Shamrocks players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Aiva Leasure, who posted nine points in addition to six rebounds and five assists. Leasure continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Madelynn Tyson, who had ten points and four steals.

Monroe Central's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-4. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.2 points per game. As for Barnesville, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-7 record this season.

Monroe Central wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 79-51 loss against Wheeling Central Catholic on the 13th. As for Barnesville, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 56-42 defeat against Union Local on the 13th.
