Softball Recap: Green Hope Triumphs

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Green Hope ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the East Chapel Hill Wildcats 7-6. The win continues a trend for the Falcons in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now won three in a row.

Rachael Baldyga made a splash while hitting and pitching. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most RBI she has posted over her last 11 contests.

In other pitching news, Leah Medlin tossed a big game, tossing six innings while giving up four earned runs off four hits.

Back at the plate, Ainsley Campbell was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run. Olivia Albidrez was another key player, getting five hits from her five at bats.

Green Hope kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are 8-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Green Hope now has a winning record of 10-9. As for East Chapel Hill, they moved to 8-10 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Green Hope will head out to take on Green Level at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for East Chapel Hill, they will venture away from home to square off against Southern School of Energy and Sustainability at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Spartans have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 19.25 runs per game on average), something the Wildcats will no doubt try to take advantage of.
