Volleyball Recap: Mullen Snaps Six-Game Streak of Wins on the Road + How To Watch

Mullen lost against Cherokee Trail back in September of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Mustangs fell just short of the Cougars by a score of 3-2. While the Mustangs didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Cougars 25-18 in the first set.

Mullen took Cherokee Trail into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking four-point loss. The final score came out to 18-25, 25-19, 25-21, 25-27, 15-11.

Shelby Elms paced Mullen's offense, picking up 18 kills. Elms got some help from Annie Ancheta and her 21 assists. Elms also made an impact serving: she shared the team lead in aces with Gabby Peonio, each putting up two.

Mullen's loss ended a six-match streak of away wins and brought them to 13-3. As for Cherokee Trail, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 9-6.

Mullen and Cherokee Trail will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next matches. The next time the Mustangs see the court they'll take on Smoky Hill at 6:30 p.m. on the 21st. As for Cherokee Trail, their break will end when they face Arapahoe at 6:30 p.m. on the 21st.
