Freeport has gone a perfect 7-0 against Morse recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Falcons will host the Shipbuilders at 5:00 p.m. Freeport is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak dating back to last season.
Freeport came into this matchup off a tough 12-run loss on Wednesday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of Gardiner by a score of 8-6 on Saturday.
Ben Bolduc was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Jacob Cass was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Morse hadn't done well against Erskine Academy recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Shipbuilders walked away with a 14-9 win over the Eagles. The Shipbuilders' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Eli Sommers made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. Those two runs gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Caden Wells was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jackson Murray, who went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, four runs, and one double.
Morse kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Erskine Academy only managed eight hits.
Morse's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Freeport, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-3.
Freeport took their win against Morse in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 13-4 score. Do the Falcons have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Shipbuilders turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
