Baseball Game Preview: Northampton Blue Devils vs. Amherst-Pelham Regional Hurricanes

The Northampton Blue Devils are taking a road trip to take on the Amherst-Pelham Regional Hurricanes at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Northampton lost 8-2 to Chicopee Comp on Monday. The defeat continues a trend for the Blue Devils in their meetings with the Colts: they've now lost three in a row.

Johnny Nields-Duffy made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double. That double marked the first that he has hit this season.

Amherst-Pelham Regional came out on top against Granby on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run sixth inning. The Hurricanes put the hurt on the Rams with a sharp 12-5 win. The Hurricanes' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Amherst-Pelham Regional got a massive performance out of Brady Klaes, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with four stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Those four stolen bases gave Klaes a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Daniel Lebron, who went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and one run.

Northampton's loss dropped their record down to 2-4-1. As for Amherst-Pelham Regional, the victory was their first on the road, bumping their record up to 2-4.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Northampton has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Amherst-Pelham Regional struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.

Northampton got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in May of 2025 against Amherst-Pelham Regional by a conclusive 13-3 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Blue Devils since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
