League recap: Holly Springs stuns Fuquay-Varina in upset

The biggest upset of the week belonged to Holly Springs, who took down 114th ranked Fuquay-Varina, 48-34.

Jason West and Brad Bowling provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Middle Creek. The connection was good for 73 yards, the longest such play in 4A Tri-Nine this season.

Athens Drive's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. West threw for 345 and one touchdown and Bowling had 137 yards receiving. On the ground Dominique Lynch chipped in 110 yards. Steven Parrish helped Athens Drive's passing attack out by catching 13 balls for 117 yards.

Green Hope's Chris Tutwiler and Mitchell Chalker have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Tutwiler has thrown for 1754 yards this season, while Chalker, a 5-foot-7 receiver, has 44 catches for 488 yards. Lynch from the Jaguars leads the league in rushing with 1169 yards.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Golden Hawks take on the Mustangs. As it stands, Holly Springs is in fourth, while Middle Creek is in first.

Will Orbin's team moved up to 166 from 192 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 4A Tri-Nine. The Golden Hawks climbed the ranks as a result of besting the Bengals 48-34.
