Baseball Recap: Willcox Gets the Win

Willcox won the last time they faced Desert Christian and things went their way on Friday too. The Cowboys came out on top against the Eagles by a score of 8-3. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Cowboys.

Jahir Reyes made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out seven batters over 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, earning three runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ty Shull, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Asher Ward, who went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases and two runs.

Willcox's record is now 14-6. As for Desert Christian, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-14 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Willcox will take on rival Bisbee at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Cowboys 3.3, the Pumas 2.8) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Desert Christian is set to square off against their familiar foe St. Augustine Catholic at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
