Baseball Game Preview: Shafter Generals vs. Corcoran Panthers

The Shafter Generals will square off against the Corcoran Panthers at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Shafter sitting on 12 straight victories and Corcoran on 13.

Shafter is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 win over South.

Lukas Pena made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out 15 batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. Those 15 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

In other batting news, Joaquin Garza was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one triple and one run.

Meanwhile, Corcoran owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Chavez, sneaking past 2-0. That's two games straight that the Panthers have won by exactly two runs.

The team relied heavily on Brennan Botill, who went 3-for-4 with one run and one double.

Shafter pushed their record up to 19-4 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Corcoran, their victory bumped their record up to 24-4.
