Softball Game Preview: Crystal City Javelinas vs. Natalia Mustangs

Crystal City is 0-5 against Natalia since March of 2016 but things could change on Friday. The Crystal City Javelinas will face off against the Natalia Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. Crystal City has given up an average of 11 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.

Crystal City is headed into Friday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Tuesday. They lost 16-6 to Dilley.

Izabela Tapia was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-4. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in February of 2024.

Meanwhile, Natalia got the win against Lytle on Tuesday by a conclusive 11-5. Considering the Mustangs have won eight matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Natalia let Gabriella Mendez and Leyla Saenz run wild. Mendez scored a run while going 2-for-3, while Saenz scored a run while going 3-for-5. The team also got some help courtesy of Kira Jimenez, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

Natalia has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-4-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.9 runs on average over those games. Crystal City's defeat dropped their record down to 2-4.

Crystal City suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Natalia in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can Crystal City avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
