Softball Preview: Ticonderoga Sentinels vs. Saranac Spartans
The Ticonderoga Sentinels will challenge the Saranac Spartans at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.
Saranac will challenge a team with plenty of momentum: Ticonderoga extended their winning streak to four on Thursday. The Sentinels put the hurt on Northeastern Clinton with a sharp 16-9 win. Fans of the Sentinels have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.
Meanwhile, Saranac made easy work of Saranac Lake on Wednesday and carried off a 16-1 victory. The Spartans haven't had any issues with the Red Storm recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
Irelyn Ryan made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and 19 unearned) runs off three hits (and not a single walk). Ryan was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
In other batting news, Saranac got a massive performance out of Emily McDermott, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI McDermott has posted since back in April of 2024. Maddie Gagnier was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Ticonderoga's victory was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-0. As for Saranac, their win bumped their record up to 2-0.
Ticonderoga came out on top in a nail-biter against Saranac in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, sneaking past 4-3. Will the Sentinels repeat their success, or do the Spartans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
