Football Recap: Helena Huskies vs. McAdory Yellowjackets
Helena unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They fell 34-21 to the McAdory Yellowjackets on Friday. The Huskies were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Yellowjackets apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in August of 2024.
When it comes to explaining why Helena lost, don't look at Davis Kelly. Despite the final result, he picked up 114 receiving yards and two TDs. Kelly showed off some serious burst, connecting on a big catch for 68 yards.
Helena didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Nathan Reid and Aiden Zepp. Helena got some further help from Jonathan Roberto: he made 13 total tackles (1.0 for loss) and defended one pass.
Marcus Briggs went supernova For McAdory., picking up 170 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Kawann Johnson handled things on the ground, rushing for 96 yards and a rushing touchdown.
McAdory has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.
Helena and McAdory will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. The Huskies will take on rival Chilton County at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, McAdory is set to square off against their familiar foe Northridge at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
