Basketball Recap: Yorkville Christian Takes a Loss

On Thursday, the Yorkville Christian Mustangs came up short against the Bishop McNamara Fightin' Irish and fell 66-55. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 247th, while the Fightin' Irish are ranked 93rd).

Despite the loss, Yorkville Christian still got an impressive performance from Payton Wallin, who went 10 for 19 to rack up 27 points and eight rebounds. That's the most points Wallin has posted since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava DiQui, who scored 13 points in addition to six boards and three steals.

Yorkville Christian's loss dropped their record down to 17-8. As for Bishop McNamara, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 20-7 record this season.

Looking ahead, Yorkville Christian will take on Willows Academy at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Willows Academy will roll in looking for their tenth straight victory, something Yorkville Christian surely won't give up without a fight. As for Bishop McNamara, they will square off against St. Edward at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
