Baseball Preview: Falls City Tigers vs. Central City/Centura Kernels
Falls City is preparing for their first district matchup of the season on Thursday. They will venture away from home to challenge the Central City/Centura Kernels at 2:00 p.m. Falls City is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak.
Falls City fell victim to Fort Calhoun and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Pioneers. The shutout was out of character for the Tigers seeing as the last time the team failed to score was back in March.
Meanwhile, Central City/Centura got themselves on the board against Elkhorn on Monday, but Elkhorn never followed suit. They skirted past the Antlers 1-0. Those one runs were actually the fewest the Kernels have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.
Conner Erickson made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI. That's the most doubles he has posted since back in April of 2024.
Erickson wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Parker Zikmund, who went 1-for-2 with one run.
Central City/Centura pushed their record up to 19-1 with the victory, which was their ninth straight on the road. As for Falls City, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-16.
