Basketball Recap: Desert Hot Springs Comes Up Short

Desert Hot Springs and Anaheim squared off in some playoff action on Wednesday, but Desert Hot Springs had to settle for second. They took a 68-61 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Anaheim Colonists.

Despite the loss, Desert Hot Springs still got an impressive performance from Denny Castro, who went 11-for-25 on his way to 29 points along with five assists and four steals. Castro's evening made it 15 games in a row in which he has scored at least 16 points. Jaymere Broach was another key player, putting up four points in addition to six rebounds and five steals.

Even though they lost, Desert Hot Springs smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 16 consecutive games.

Desert Hot Springs' loss dropped their record down to 12-11. As for Anaheim, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-10 record this season.

Desert Hot Springs does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Anaheim, they will take on Valley Christian Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Valley Christian Academy sitting on three straight victories and Anaheim on nine.
