Basketball Recap: Iyona Reid's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Statesville over Hickory

Statesville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They lost to the Hickory Red Tornadoes at home by a 46-31 margin. The Greyhounds lost against the Red Tornadoes in their previous head to head back in February of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 61-10 score last time.

Statesville's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Iyona Reid, who posted four points and five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Symerria Harris, who earned six points along with five boards and four blocks.

Statesville's record is now 6-10. As for Hickory, their victory bumped their record up to 3-9.

When Statesville and Hickory next hit the court, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. Statesville will try to stop North Lincoln's 14-game winning streak when the meet at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Hickory will challenge East Lincoln and their nine-game winning streak at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
