Softball Recap: Crystal River Extends Home Winning Streak to Four

Crystal River put their dominant pitcher on display in the team's third consecutive shutout on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Lecanto Panthers with a sharp 10-0 victory. Considering the Pirates have won five games by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Violet Flynn was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. Furthermore, she didn't allow a single hit, the first time she has blanked an opponent since back in May of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Athena Childs was a standout: she scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Emma Crosby also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Crystal River was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .407. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2024.

Crystal River's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-1. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 6.8 runs. As for Lecanto, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-9.

Looking ahead, Crystal River will welcome Chiefland at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Crystal River's pitching crew has only allowed 1.5 runs per game this season, so Chiefland's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Lecanto, they will head out to square off against East Ridge at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. East Ridge is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.3 runs per game this season.
