Flag Football Recap: Dynamic Duo of Nevaeh Martinez and Esmeralda Torres Lead Marina to Victory

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Pacific Collegiate, Marina was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Rancho San Juan Trailblazers by a score of 19-12. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 30-8 back in September.

A big part of Marina's victory came down to the chemistry between Nevaeh Martinez and her top target Esmeralda Torres. Martinez rushed for 67 yards and one touchdown while Torres gained 193 total yards and two touchdowns. The dominant performance also gave Torres a new career-high in receiving yards (63).

Marina didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Sarahi Pavon and Naima Paredes.

Marina's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-6. As for Rancho San Juan, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-6.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Marina will face off against rival North Monterey County at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (the Mariners 15, the Condors 7.2) so any points scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Rancho San Juan is set to challenge their familiar foe North Salinas at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
