Basketball Recap: North Dickinson Piles Up the Points Against L'anse

North Dickinson came tearing into Tuesday's match with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 39 points), and they left with even more momentum. They really took it to the L'Anse Purple Hornets for the full four quarters, racking up a 70-39 win. Given the Nordics' advantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 248th, while the Purple Hornets are ranked 574th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Despite the loss, L'Anse saw an underclassman step up: freshman Sam Lee almost dropped a double-double with 16 points and nine boards. That was a full 41% of L'Anse's points, marking the third time in a row Lee has posted more than a third of the team's points. Miles VanAlstine also deserves some recognition as he grabbed his first steals of the season.

North Dickinson's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-5-1. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.7 points over those games. As for L'Anse, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-11.

North Dickinson does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for L'Anse, they will challenge Forest Park at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Forest Park knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past eight contests -- so hopefully L'Anse likes a good challenge.
