Recap: Rustburg Red Devils vs. Amherst County Lancers
The Rustburg Red Devils lost against the Amherst County Lancers back in January of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The game between the two teams wasn't particularly close, with Rustburg falling 45-29.
Rustburg lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Madi Crews, who scored 11 points. Samiyah Jackson was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Leading Amherst County to victory were Cheyenne Wall and Hannah Hooper. Wall scored 11 points along with three steals and two blocks, while Hooper scored 14 points along with eight rebounds. That's the first time this season that Hooper pulled down eight or more rebounds. Another player making a difference was McKenzie Padgett, who scored six points along with five steals.
Rustburg's defeat dropped their record down to 7-4. As for Amherst County, the win got them back to even at 6-6.
Rustburg will be playing in front of their home fans against Liberty at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Liberty presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Rustburg in Virginia (Liberty is ranked 39th, while Rustburg is ranked 163rd). As for Amherst County, they will head out on the road to challenge Jefferson Forest at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
