The Columbia Raiders will take on the Clearview Clippers at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Columbia is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 12.1 runs per game this season.
Columbia's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Oberlin as they made off with a 19-0 win. The Raiders have beaten the Phoenix the last five times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Phoenix has come to flipping the script.
Alina Jones looked comfortable as she struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk).
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Grace Anderson, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Another player making a difference was Cami Shackelton, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.
Columbia was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .455. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Clearview fell victim to Wellington and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They came up short against the Dukes, falling 11-0. The loss continues a trend for the Clippers in their meetings with the Dukes: they've now lost six in a row.
Clearview saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alivia Ocasio, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases. Ocasio is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played.
Columbia's victory bumped their record up to 9-4. As for Clearview, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-10.
Clearview's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Columbia hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .405. It's a different story for Clearview, though, as they've only averaged .205. Will they be able to contain Columbia's hitters?
Everything went Columbia's way against Clearview in their previous meeting two weeks ago, as Columbia made off with a 24-0 win. Do the Raiders have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Clippers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
