Basketball Game Preview: San Mateo Bearcats vs. Capuchino Mustangs

The San Mateo Bearcats will challenge the Capuchino Mustangs at 7:45 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (San Mateo has five straight victories, Capuchino has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

San Mateo is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They claimed a resounding 82-44 win over South San Francisco. Given the Bearcats' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 249th, while the Warriors are ranked 629th), the result on Wednesday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Capuchino lost 53-31 to Aragon on Wednesday. The game marked the Mustangs' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

San Mateo pushed their record up to 10-4 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.2 points per game. As for Capuchino, their loss dropped their record down to 5-8.

San Mateo was able to grind out a solid win over Capuchino in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, winning 53-40. The rematch might be a little tougher for San Mateo since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
