Baseball Game Preview: Union City Soaring Eagles vs. Hoboken Redwings

Union City is a perfect 6-0 against Hoboken since April of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Soaring Eagles will host the Redwings. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Union City 4, Hoboken 3.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Union City was handed a 14-run defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Saturday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Bloomfield 6-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Soaring Eagles have posted since May 14, 2024.

Jean Calderon was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with five stolen bases, one run, and one double. Those five stolen bases gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of LJ Santiago, who went 3-for-4 with two doubles, one stolen base, and one run.

Meanwhile, Hoboken hadn't done well against Hudson Catholic recently (they were 1-6 in their previous seven matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. The Redwings blew past the Hawks 16-5. The Redwings might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matches by eight runs or more this season.

Hoboken's victory bumped their record up to 13-7. As for Union City, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-6 record this season.

Everything went Union City's way against Hoboken when the teams last played back in April, as Union City made off with a 15-4 win. Will the Soaring Eagles repeat their success, or do the Redwings have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
