Softball Preview: Roosevelt Rough Riders vs. Tallmadge Blue Devils

Roosevelt hasn't had much luck against Tallmadge recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Rough Riders will head out to square off against the Blue Devils at 5:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a three-game winning streak alive.

If Roosevelt beats Tallmadge with seven runs on Monday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. The Rough Riders beat Cuyahoga Falls on Thursday by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 7-6.

Brynn Moser spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and two unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up nine Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Emelia Gates, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Kamia Walker was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Tallmadge). Everything went their way against Revere on Monday as they made off with an 11-0 victory. With that win, the Blue Devils brought their scoring average up to 7 runs per game.

Tallmadge also got a great performance from Caitlyn Carter as she didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. What's more, Carter posted two strikeouts, the most she's had since back in May of 2025.

On the hitting side, Sophia Paonessa was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2025. Jada Kendrick also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Tallmadge was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .438. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive matchups.

Roosevelt's record is now 3-0. As for Tallmadge, their record now sits at 3-1.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Roosevelt has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Tallmadge struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.

Roosevelt couldn't quite finish off Tallmadge in their previous meeting back in April of 2025 and fell 4-2. Can the Rough Riders avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
