Baseball Recap: Rantoul Find Success

Rantoul took a ten-run defeat the last time they faced off against Paxton-Buckley-Loda, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Eagles had just enough and edged out the Panthers 2-1. This was payback for the Eagles, who suffered a 10-0 loss the last time these two teams met.

Holden Cargo spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Rantoul is 4-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 7-8 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Rantoul secured the victory behind a pair of hitters. One of them was Yovanny Solorzano, who went 1-for-2 with one run.

Rantoul is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.3 runs over those games. As for Paxton-Buckley-Loda, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 11-9.

Rantoul and Paxton-Buckley-Loda could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Eagles (ranked 356th) will meet Mattoon (ranked 135th) at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Paxton-Buckley-Loda will face off against Westville at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank disadvantage (279 vs. 98).
