3A Region II District 9 recap October 8, 2013
Gainesville added to the longest winning streak in 3A Region II District 9 this week by beating Vernon, 27-18. The win marks fifth in a row for the the Leopards.
Sanger scaled the state rankings by moving to 353 from 475 this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Indians climbed the ranks as a result of defeating Lone Star 42-35.
Sanger's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Brandon Mann threw for 176 and 1 touchdown and Wyatt Broxson had 82 yards receiving. On the ground Trevon Jackson contributed 267 yards. Jackson helped Sanger's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 39 yards.
Jackson was a passing and rushing force as Chuck Galbreath's team defeated the Rangers. Jackson's favorite target this week was Broxson, who caught 3 passes for 82 yards.
Jackson was a beast in the backfield as the Indians topped Lone Star.
Jackson was the most successful running back in the league this week. He ran for 267 yards on 32 carries as Sanger bested Jeff Rayburn's team. Derek Shelby also contributed to the rushing game with 46 yards on the ground.
Sanger's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Indians feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Mann has thrown for 916 yards and 8 touchdowns this season, while Broxson has 21 catches for 454 yards.
In 136 carries Jackson has put up 978 yards this year.
An important game coming up in 3A Region II District 9 this week will be when Decatur takes on Gainesville. At the moment, the Eagles are in third, while Keith Hall's team is in first.
The league will see a high scoring game when Decatur and the Leopards face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Kyle Story's team comes in having scored 150 this season, while Gainesville has scored 162. The Eagles scored 27 points last week as they lost to Alvarado.
Bridgeport lost to Graham 55-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Hunter Gantt was a bright spot for the Bulls, as he ran for 46 yards and caught 5 passes for 17 yards in the defeat.
