Football Game Preview: Ord Chanticleers vs. Cross County Cougars

The Ord Chanticleers are taking a road trip to square off against the Cross County Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Ord has four straight wins, Cross County has five straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Ord is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They claimed a resounding 63-7 victory over Centura. The result was nothing new for the Chanticleers, who have now won three games by 35 points or more so far this season.

Ord didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Beau Wells and Knox Nelson. Ord received some extra help from Caden Lytle, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.

Meanwhile, Cross County played a tough contest on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were beaten by Grand Island Central Catholic 52-14. The Cougars were down 52-7 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Although Cross County took the loss, they still got scores from Benji Cooper and Sawyer Anderson.

Cross County's defeat dropped their record down to 2-5. As for Ord, they now have a winning record of 4-3.

Everything came up roses for Ord against Cross County in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 42-14 win. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was the Cougars' Tyion Francis, who rushed for 81 yards and one touchdown. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will the Chanticleers still be able to contain Francis? There's only one way to find out.
