Baseball Game Preview: Newport Cubs vs. Philomath Warriors

For the second straight game, Newport will face off against Philomath. The Cubs will be playing at home against the Warriors at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Newport is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Oregon's top teams: Philomath, who was ranked 13th at the time (Newport was ranked 17th). The Cubs walked away with a 7-2 win over the Warriors on Wednesday.

Newport has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games. As for Philomath, the loss snapped their winning streak at ten games and leaves them with a 16-3-1 record.
