Softball Recap: Northridge's Undefeated Season over After Three Games

Northridge came into their game on Saturday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against the South Bend Riley Wildcats, falling 17-5. The Raiders were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Wildcats apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Rachel Humbarger made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. Humbarger is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least one every time she's taken the field this season. Another player making a difference was Rielyn Goodwin, who scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances.

Having lost for the first time this season, Northridge fell to 2-1. As for South Bend Riley, they now also have a winning record of 2-1.

Northridge will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Carroll at 5:30 p.m. on the 17th. As for South Bend Riley, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next match, a 13-0 victory against Wawasee on the 1st.
