The Rancho Cucamonga Cougars will face off against the Apple Valley Sun Devils at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Rancho Cucamonga has given up an average of 6.8 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Rancho Cucamonga came up short against Chino Hills on Friday, falling 14-1. The Cougars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last contest, Apple Valley made sure to put some runs up on the board against Serrano on Tuesday. The Sun Devils put the hurt on the Diamondbacks with a sharp 12-2 win. Considering the Sun Devils have won eight matches by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Brynne Johnson made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off one hit. Johnson was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brooke Johnson, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run and two runs.
Apple Valley lost a few balls and finished the game with four home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in April of 2024.
Apple Valley's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-6-1. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Rancho Cucamonga, they now have a losing record of 9-10.
Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Rancho Cucamonga hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .329. However, it's not like Apple Valley struggles in that department as they've averaged .342. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
