Baseball Recap: Bellingham Snags Fifth Win in Last Six Games

Bellingham won the last time they faced Lakewood and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Bayhawks came out on top against the Cougars by a score of 9-4.

Kai Nelson made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. Nelson was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one stolen base.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Joe Harward, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases and three RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Bellingham's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 5-1 (and 0-5 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Jasper Love, who scored two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

Bellingham is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games. As for Lakewood, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-8.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Bellingham will challenge Sedro-Woolley at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Lakewood, they will take on Kingston at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
