Basketball Recap: South Mountain Comes Up Short

If South Mountain was feeling good fresh off their 62-18 takedown of Coronado last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The South Mountain Jaguars were dealt a 79-26 loss at the hands of the Basha Bears on Tuesday. The Jaguars were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 52-9.

South Mountain's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Bry'Ann Wiley, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds, and Angela Myers-Mukes, who posted three points. The dominant performance also gave Myers-Mukes a new career-high in assists (two).

Even though they lost, South Mountain smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Basha only pulled down eight offensive boards.

Basha's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Audrey O'Connor, who made all 6 shots she took to post 16 points. Terrais-Joi Coleman was another key player, going 5 of 8 on her way to 10 points along with six assists and six steals.

South Mountain now has a losing record at 7-8. As for Basha, their victory ended a nine-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 10-6.

South Mountain didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 60-11 win against Maryvale on the 9th. As for Basha, they will host Perry at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Basha is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.6 points per game this season.
