Football Recap: East Providence Townies vs. West Warwick Wizards
East Providence had to start their season on the road on Saturday, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. They took a 30-22 hit to the loss column at the hands of the West Warwick Wizards.
East Providence's loss came despite strong showings from Jacob Duarte and Aithan Vasquez. Duarte rushed for 50 yards, while Vasquez rushed for 25 yards and two touchdowns.
James Branch had an outrageously good game for West Warwick as he rushed for 129 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 24 yards and a touchdown. Branch also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, making five total tackles and defending two passes. Nathan Corona was another key player, rushing for 32 yards and a touchdown.
East Providence will venture away from home to take on Westerly at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for West Warwick, they are headed away from home for the first time to challenge Shea at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
