Softball Recap: Mountain Crest Finds Playoff Glory Versus Hillcrest

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Mountain Crest had no problem doing just that on Friday. They came out on top against the Hillcrest Huskies by a score of 6-3. The victory continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Huskies: they've now won three in a row.

Morgan Coulam spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on six hits and racked up eight Ks.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Allee Carlston, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Izzy Laughery, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Mountain Crest kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in three consecutive matches.

Mountain Crest's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-16. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Hillcrest, their loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-10.

Mountain Crest will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Huskies: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
