Basketball Game Preview: Vista Grande Spartans vs. Nogales Apaches

The Vista Grande Spartans will challenge the Nogales Apaches at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Nogales took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Vista Grande, who comes in off a win.

Two weeks ago, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Vista Grande beat Highland Prep 34-29. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Spartans.

Vista Grande found their leader in freshman Gabby Sepulveda, who posted 13 points. Sepulveda has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Maria Cuevas was another key player, putting up eight points and six rebounds.

Meanwhile, Nogales came up short against Catalina Foothills on Wednesday and fell 57-50. The defeat continues a trend for the Apaches in their matchups with the Falcons: they've now lost seven in a row.

Nogales' loss dropped their record down to 8-7. As for Vista Grande, their victory bumped their record up to 6-8.

Vista Grande came up short against Nogales when the teams last played back in January of 2016, falling 58-48. Thankfully for Vista Grande, Jackie Romero (who went 9 of 17 on her way to 22 points and five steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
